A BUSY 2011-2012 ACADEMIC YEAR
WHG’s monthly events bring together the girls and the women in the organization for activities that are fun, enriching, and community-building. During the 2011-2012 academic year, a few of the highlights included a sleep-over at the Genesee Museum and Science Center, a visit to the Susan B. Anthony House, a Celebration of Cultures, bowling at Clover Lanes, a Leadership Program, the annual Mother-Daughter Luncheon, and attendance at The Lion King.
An additional popular option for the girls is membership in the Sisterhood Book Club. Under the leadership of Melanie Lewis, the Sisterhood Book Club meets monthly during homeroom at Wilson Commencement Academy to discuss the books. The Sisterhood book list for 2010-2011 included, for example,
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange.
